Vienna is one of the most expensive tourist destinations in Europe. Dining out in Vienna on top of all the travel expenses can quickly drain your wallet. The city is popular for its café and restaurant culture and it’s a shame that eating out in Vienna is so expensive, especially if you travel on a strict budget. A reasonable dinner for two will easily exceed 30 EUR. But, don’t worry — there’s a delicious workaround. If you’re looking for where to eat in Vienna or want a budget-friendly Vienna dining guide, here’s how we discovered some of the best restaurants in Vienna without overspending — thanks to the NeoTaste app.
Through NeoTaste, you can secure more than 700 deals in a variety of restaurants currently operating within Vienna. Some of the popular offer types are: 2-for-1 main courses (where you pay for one main course and receive two), 2-for-1 coffee and cake, 10 EUR discount on minimum 25 EUR orders, and so on. With NeoTaste, a reasonable, filling dinner for two in a good restaurant would not exceed 20 EUR; maybe 25 EUR if you stretch. That’s a solid saving!
How NeoTaste Helps You Dine Like Royalty
Now, you’re probably wondering what on earth NeoTaste is and how it works. Let me cover that for you.
Basically, NeoTaste is a mobile app where you can browse through the list of restaurants available in your area. There is an option to filter based on the kind of food you’d like to eat (Asian, Pizza, Sushi, etc.) and you can book the deal you like the most. While booking, you need to note the time range during which the booking can be redeemed, and you can visit anytime within that time.

NeoTaste is available on both iOS and Android. You can download the app for free and get a 1-month free trial. After the trial, you can either extend your subscription for 4.99 EUR per month or 2.99 EUR per month (if you pay annually). For every friend you recommend, you also get one month free.
If you need more information about the app, check out this article where I guide you in detail on how to join the app, find deals and book them via the NeoTaste app.
Now that we’re ready and on the same page, let’s check out these awesome deals we scored in Vienna.
Where to Eat in Vienna : Our Top NeoTaste Restaurant Picks
Vapiano

Savory pasta from Vapiano (left): 17.1 EUR total expense ; Pizza Vapiano (right): 20.1 EUR total expense
Vapiano is a common name for Italian food. I had heard good things about Vapiano’s savory pastas from my friends in Germany, so we decided to give it a try in Vienna. They were offering a 2-for-1 main course deal via NeoTaste, where we enjoyed two main courses for the price of one.
As my friends had described, the pasta was delicious. Made even better by the fact that it only cost us 16 EUR for two pastas and a beer. What could’ve been an expensive dinner in Vienna turned into a sweet saving with the help of NeoTaste.
There are two Vapiano branches in the Vienna city center, both located only a 10-minute walk from St. Stephen’s Cathedral. This allows you to use the deals at both branches on two different days, which is exactly what we did.
At Vapiano, please note that you first have to receive a token card from a staff member, which allows you to place your order. Your order will be stored on that token card, and you pay afterwards using the same token. Normally, you can show your NeoTaste offer while paying for dinner, but you can also show it before receiving the token so you can rest assured that your deal works.

Shin Taiwanese Eatery

The favorite restaurant we explored in Vienna has to be Shin Eatery. This Taiwanese place had a very calm ambience, which was matched by the warm and soothing bowl of noodle soup. We were delighted with the food and the quality evening it provided us.
Shin Eatery also offered a 2-for-1 main course, where we paid a total of 22 EUR for two noodle bowls and two mocktails. I highly recommend you visit this place in the evening. It is only a 15-minute walk from the Vienna Prater.

Donburi Sushi

If you can’t imagine a vacation without sushi, this restaurant could be the perfect stop for you. It’s a small place, likely run by a family, and offers delicious sushi. It’s also located near the Vienna city center, just a 12-minute walk from the Vienna Prater.
They offer mixed sushi platters as well as a variety of other sushi that can satisfy your cravings. Via NeoTaste, they provide a €10 discount with a minimum spend of €25. Since it was our last meal in Vienna, we went all in and ordered enough of sushi and paid just 18 EUR and went out full and happy.
Location: Praterstraße 36, 1020 Wien, Austria
KONG: Taiwanese Bistro

A quick, but equally delicious outing was in KONG Taiwanese Bistro, located only 5 minutes walking distance from the St. Stephen’s Cathedral.
The restaurant offered 2-for-1 Crispy chicken rice and we ordered them along with beers. The food came in good quantities in big bowls and it tasted delicious. The ambience was quite lovely too. Altogether, we paid 17 EUR for two main courses and two beers.
Location: KONG: Taiwanese Bistro, Hoher Markt 8, 1010 Wien, Austria
This surely is not the end of the list. With 700+ deals available in Vienna, you are free to explore the NeoTaste app and find the restaurants and cafes of your liking in Vienna, suitable for all your dining needs.

Though we really wanted to, we somehow missed out on visiting cafes in Vienna this time – makes up for a potential café adventure next time around. Vienna is famous for cake cafés (like Sachertorte) which are expensive but worth splurging once.
Tips on Making the Best of NeoTaste
Browse and book the deals beforehand. Trying to find a deal while you’re already out and about in the city can sometimes be a struggle. If you already fix the restaurants to visit before heading out to the city, that’ll save you quite some time and the stress of having to browse and decide on the go.
Check the ratings and reviews. You should look for the restaurants with better ratings and higher number of reviews to ensure that the restaurant is good. Rarely, it might be that the restaurants have stopped accepting the deals anymore. So it is helpful to check the latest reviews and see if people have been visiting in the recent dates.
In my personal experience, I do not visit restaurants that have no reviews, have reviews that say something like “no longer accepting offers,” or have very poor ratings. So far, my experience has been smooth.
