How NeoTaste Helped Me Save Over 100 Euros on Dining Out

After a tiresome day, going out to dine and enjoy a laid-back glass of wine or a pint of beer is a quintessential experience of being an adult. It has its charm and offers a sense of peacefulness that dining enthusiasts can probably relate to. However, if we’re not careful, these occasional dine-outs can quickly climb their way up to become a major expense. That’s where NeoTaste comes in handy. And trust me, this app is a godsend.

I used NeoTaste for the first time in December 2023. Like how challenging trying a new app can be, I was hesitant to try it at first. I tried it with my friend during our day trip to Bonn. We showed the app’s booking before ordering and then gave our orders. The staff was really friendly and helped us through it. We had two really good pizzas for just 10 EUR in a 2-for-1 pizza deal. Then, I was hooked on the app.

Before I start blurting out the details, let’s get structured. I will share everything you need to know about NeoTaste in the following NeoTaste guide.

What is NeoTaste?

NeoTaste is a German restaurant app that offers exclusive restaurant deals to customers, most commonly in a 2-for-1 format. With a 2-for-1 deal, you order two main dishes and only pay for one.

They also have various other kinds of deals, such as a 10 EUR discount on a minimum 25 EUR spent or a free dessert when you order a main dish. The offers vary based on the restaurant.

NeoTaste started their service in September 2021 and quickly gained popularity in Germany. I can see why; it’s hard not to use this app after you’ve tried it once. Currently, they have over 750,000 regular users.

Their growth has been impeccable. Initially starting in the larger German cities, they are now available in 35 cities across Germany. Recently, they also started expanding internationally, with offers in four cities (Amsterdam, Haarlem, Utrecht, and Rotterdam) in the Netherlands and two cities (Manchester and Birmingham) in the United Kingdom. I can see this quickly becoming a must-have app for travelers in Europe.

Getting Started with NeoTaste

Step 1: Downloading the App

NeoTaste is available on both iOS and Android. You can download the app for free and get a 1-month free trial. After the trial, you can either extend your subscription for 4.99 EUR per month or 2.99 EUR per month (if you pay annually).

For every friend you recommend, you also get one month free.

Step 2: Onboarding

You need to fill in your basic details, like name, email, and address. The onboarding process is really smooth and does not ask for too much data.

Step 3: Browse and Book Deals

Now the app is ready for you. You can browse the restaurants listed on the NeoTaste app. You can get offers for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or even drinks. They have a variety of restaurants offering a wide range of foods in the app.

Booking and Redeeming Deals

Step 1: Find and Book Deals

Booking with NeoTaste is a cakewalk. You browse through the list of restaurants available in your area. There is an option to filter based on the kind of food you’d like to eat (Asian, Pizza, Sushi, etc.) and book the deal you like the most. While booking, you need to note the time range during which the booking can be redeemed, and you can visit anytime within that range.

I would suggest you check the customer reviews before booking, as you will get an idea of how well accustomed the staff are to NeoTaste. I tend to choose restaurants with more than 50 reviews, so I am assured that they know the drill..

Step 2: Redeem Your Booking

Redeeming your booking is not at all complicated. You visit the restaurant during their opening hours as you normally would. It can be helpful to contact them earlier to make a reservation so you don’t have to wait longer if the restaurant is busy. It also helps to call and check if the restaurant is open because, on public holidays, some restaurants might have irregular hours.

Once you are in the restaurant, you can make your order. Let’s say you have booked a 2-for-1 main course deal. In this case, you can go to the main course section of the menu and choose the food you want to order. You don’t have to order the same food for both; you can order whatever you like, and the restaurant will only charge for one item (the more expensive one ; ) ).

Just remember to mention NeoTaste before you place your order. This lets the staff know immediately and makes the process smoother. Also, make sure to redeem the deal only when the restaurant staff asks you to do so. They need to see and verify that you have a deal booked. You can redeem the deal by sliding the “Redeem the deal” slider button.

If you are hesitant, you can call one of the staff members and tell them you have NeoTaste, and they will happily guide you through the process.

My Personal Experience

I first used NeoTaste in December 2023. Since then, I have redeemed (together with my friend) more than 15 deals and saved more than 100 EUR in total.

I have used NeoTaste for coffee, breakfast, cakes, full-course dinners, and even cocktails. I currently live in Stuttgart, and they have listed over 250 restaurants in the city. Whenever my friend is visiting me, it has become a ritual to just go out in the city, explore, and take breaks to visit the restaurants. There are more than 20 deals I have bookmarked in the app to visit in the future. That’s how awesome NeoTaste is.

Some of My Favorite Deals

Out of the more than 15 deals I have redeemed on NeoTaste, my favorite has to be the Hans Im Gluck 2-for-1 Menu deal. This provides a comprehensive dining experience, as it has everything you need.

A menu consists of a burger of your choice, fries or a salad, and a cocktail of your choice. The cost for the deal is ~22 EUR, and you get two menus for that price. That’s like 11 EUR for a menu. Is that not a great deal?

Doesn’t this look satisfying?

My other frequently used deal is the 2-for-1 Coffee deal. It is hard to find good coffee at affordable prices. With this deal, we can enjoy a coffee each for just 2-2.5 EUR. We can either sit and enjoy a slow morning or order a takeaway.

Some Suggestions to Make The Best Use of NeoTaste

  • Browse and book the deals beforehand. Trying to find a deal while you’re already out and about in the city can sometimes be a struggle. There are a variety of options, and deciding on the nearest and best option can be hard. Pick a deal earlier so you can enjoy a calm and smooth experience.
  • Check for menu deals. Menus normally come with a main dish, a side dish, and a drink. This covers everything you need for a good dining experience and maximizes savings.
  • Call the restaurant before visiting. During public holidays, the opening hours of the restaurants might be irregular and differ from what Google Maps might show. So, it is safer to call before visiting the restaurant.

This is not a paid post. I just love NeoTaste and wanted to share it with you so you can also make use of this amazing app. If you’d like, you can download the app from my referral link, so we can both get one month free. : )

  1. It’s great to know about apps that offer good deals! It just makes sense to save money when possible. I’m not sure this app would be as useful for me as I travel solo and would rarely have a companion to make a 2 for 1 deal appropriate. You mentioned that there are some discount deals, but I’m guessing that most of the deals are for two diners. Hopefully they will continue to grow and expand their offerings.

  2. Oooh, we do love a foodie bargain, so it was very interesting to read about this app. We’re based in the UK and not too far from Birmingham, so it was nice to see that NeoTaste is within reach. We’d probably hope for choices in other cities – or at least our home city – before committing to a regular subscription. But we’ll definitely keep an eye out for how the app is expanding. Thanks for letting us know about this!

  3. Interesting app, and with discounts like that it sounds like the perfect thing for traveling on a budget. I’m all for a good deal, I’ll have to look into this more for my next European trip. Good to see they’re starting to expand, hopefully it will take off more and there will be other cities added

  4. What a great idea ! I have never seen an app like this anywhere, other than during a festival or promotional period. It seems like a great way to promote dining within a city or country.

Your explanation make it sound quite easy to use. It’s great to hear that staff at restaurants are familiar with it and embrace it.

Thanks for sharing this great tip !

  5. This is a great opportunity for a couple and larger groups if they live in a city, unfortunately at this point in time not so much of interest to me since I live rurally. It sounds like a reliable concept though and customers can make some great deals on there. I would like to find out more and hear from you if you have used other food ordering apps e.g. UberEats and how Neotaste differs. Might be a good alternative to use next time I’m travelling.

  6. Interesting. I’ve never heard of an app like this so it’s nice to have especially while traveling. I never thought about food apps in general when traveling but it sounds like a great way to save money!

  7. I recently wrote about keeping food costs down while traveling, and I neglected to bring up apps as a way to save! This is a great idea, and I can see this spreading to the United States, Canada, etc as a way to draw in people during “Happy Hour” or even during the low traffic periods during the business day. This is a great way to get people to draw more value out of their dollars and sample some good food (hopefully it’s good anyway!).
